CHEM, through its constitution, provides its members with a regulatory body ensuring a consistent application of standards and codes of practice.

CHEM provides a forum for discussion of issues that are of particular and general concern.

CHEM keeps members informed of proposed European Directives and UK legislation.

CHEM’s participation in European technical committees, work groups and standards drafting ensures that members` interests are taken into consideration and protected as far as possible.

Members’ customers are made aware of CHEM standards reassuring them in terms of health and safety, equipment specifications and compatibility.

CHEM maintains regular contact with other bodies including:- BSI (British Standards Institution), HSE (Health and Safety Executive), DfT (Department for Transport), CEN (Committee for European Standards)

Becoming a Member

CHEM Membership is available, subject to meeting certain criteria, to companies which are actively engaged in the manufacture and/or the supply of equipment for the compaction, collection and transportation of all types of dry waste. The equipment referred to includes:

  • Refuse collection bodies and associated bin lifters.
  • Skip loaders.
  • Ground level de-mountable equipment (hook loaders).
  • Static and portable compactors.
  • Bulk transportation ejection bodies/trailers.
  • Recyclable waste collection bodies and associated lifters.
